Taste of Ireland
April 8, 2013 @ 7:00 am - 10:00 pm
Just wanted to make sure you all have this year’s Taste of Ireland event on your calendars. The event will be held at the Hofstra University Club on Monday, April 8th from 7pm to 10pm,.
Your $45 ticket buys you a great evening of specialty food dishes donated by many of LI’s leading Irish and American restaurants, live music featuring Jimmy Walsh and Jimmy Lavin (and friends), the Nassau County Emerald Police Pipe Band, Harp and Guinness on tap, and much much more. We also have a ton of great raffle prizes (iPads, a Kindle, iPods a NYC hotel/ restaurant weekend package to name just a few), a 50-50 raffle and silent auction items.
Our honoree this year is Susan Gordon Ryan. Susan, who helped found the NYS Empire State Games for Physically Challenged Athletes on Long Island in 1985, is herself physically challenged. Though the Games are now run by Nassau County, Susan continues on as Event Chairwoman to tirelessly help organize and support the Games, which run May 30th through June 1, 2013 at nearby Mitchell Field.
All net proceeds from the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick “Taste of Ireland” event go towards helping support the over 2000 wonderful kids who compete at the Games. I am also proud to tell you that Hofstra University has donated almost 400 University Residence Hall beds to provide accommodations for these special athletes and their families.
I‘ve attached additional information on this year’s Taste of Ireland event. Those of you who have attended and supported the event in the past know that it is a fun night that directly benefits a great cause. Please help spread us the word about April 8th, and please consider donating items such as lunch/brunch/dinner certificates or other appropriate items for our raffle.
You can purchase tickets in advance by contacting me or my co-chair Dermot Kelly, or you can just buy them at the door the night of the 8th. If anyone would like to help out by volunteering to provide/serve food, sell raffle tickets – or even play some music – on 4/8, please contact Dermot Kelly or me directly.
